Reports To:        Field Planning Manager

 

Location:             Iqaluit

 Role Summary:

This mid -level field based position is responsible for the daily planning and execution of Arctic Kingdom trips.

 Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Use your leadership expertise to provide advice and guidance on scouting locations, animal behaviour and the arctic environment.
  • Diplomatically meet with all expedition stakeholders; clients, suppliers, local guides, staff; and ensure needs are being met to their satisfactions.
  • Facilitate daily guest briefings (including the “Welcome Talk”) in order to coordinate activities of the guests and ensure that expectations for daily camp activities, logistics, etc. are as clear as possible.
  • Lead daily staff briefings. These are non-guest meetings focused on ensuring that all expedition staff members are receiving the necessary guidance and direction on decisions and activities being planned.
  • Provide updates to Arctic Kingdom HQ via satellite phone on any situational issues or concerns.
  • Keep good daily documentation on trip activities, issues, etc. and maintain all required Arctic Kingdom trip documentation
  • Ensure guest safety is factored into every decision and activity. This mentality must be first and foremost for every activity planning session and during activity executions. This ensures that activities such as wildlife viewing, qamutiq towing, kayaking, snorkeling, etc. are facilitated with safety as a primary focus.
  • Ensure all health and/or medical issues are addressed promptly and according to recognized standards of care.
  • Conduct camp contingency planning and emergency preparedness for each trip
  • Assist in ordering, purchasing and receiving local goods while maintaining all receipts.
  • Ensure that camp facilities (washrooms, guest quarters, common areas, etc.) are adequately maintained, safe and clean for use.
  • Learn about all camp equipment in order to be able to facilitate or assist in maintenance and/or repair of such equipment.
  • Control inventory of all camp assets at the time of camp set-up/tear down or during camp time, including but not limited to: fuel, consumables, shelters, power systems, vehicles, tools, etc.

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Education; areas of focus (i.e. Outdoor Leadership, Recreation studies) would be an asset
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in working in a camp or remote workplace required
  • Certification (i.e. Wilderness First Aid – Level 3) is required
  • Specialized Knowledge in small repairs ) is an asset
  • Skills required:: organization, communication, decision making, customer service
  • Abilities: problem solving, coordination, analysis, working well under pressure
  • Comfortable working in a small entrepreneurial environment, where employees support one another to ensure client satisfaction

 

Working Conditions:

Regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, working in remote locations.

 

Physical Requirements:

The roles requires one to stand and walk for extended periods of time

Lifting heavy objects on a regular basis
